Komar V. and Melamid A. (in collaboration with beavers and termites) --

Architectural Fantasies, 1998

"In our new project, "Environmental Installation – A Collaboration", we plan to collaborate with beavers and termites to create outdoor installations in their natural habitats. We have long admired the mysterious architecture of these animals who are driven by genetically-based creative instincts that we still do not fully understand.
We propose a symbolic dialogue between the expressive organic forms of beaver dams and termite towers and the elemental geometric forms discovered by ancient cultures, particularly the Egyptians and ancient Greeks. Throughout the history, artists and thinkers from Plato and Pythagoras to Goethe and to Cezanne have postulated the existence of certain ideal geometric forms underlying the apparent chaos of the visual world. We believe these essential forms also pattern the remarkable organic creations of animal architects. This approach to art will become a symbol of the ecological co-existence of different forms of life, different minds, and different creativities."

NINTENDUB

I DO NOT LIKE CRYSTAL CASTLES

So crunk-step is alive and well in the mystikal land of 8 Bit. DJ C is on top of this game! Big Up Chi-Town!

This is going to be all over the blogs today:

SQUINCY JONES - NINTENDUB MIX

----------------------------------------

The Boredoms are playing down the street from my house tonight. This has never been a possibility in my life until now.

----------------------------------------

Last week I found the cover from a bootleg of Lil' Wayne's new album sitting outside my front door, like it was trying to tell me something. I haven't figured it out yet, but I think I like the molasses "Lollipop" better than the original:

I'm feeling this new Wayne track, lyrically way more interesting than "Lollipop", but I think the hype dude who drowned out the new Remy Ma mixtape with his hooting and laughing has invaded all of hip-hop:

City 2 City

I just returned from NYC. here's a pic:

jk it was nice.

I got finger-snap blisters from the dutty artz party the other night, which was the most fun i've had in a while. The whole crew killed it + it was star studded and wild!

I have lots of videos to share. Too many.
This is my first Chicago themed post, with help from my buddy TP. Evanston stand up!

Crucial Conflict - "Hay"

3 Piece - "Ooh Ahh"

DJ Diamond - "Footwork, Twist 'em Up"

as we proceed to twist em up:

Twista ft. Lil Wayne - "Whip Game Proper"

-----------------------------------

While I was in NYC I had this track stuck in my head the whole time, but I couldn't remember what it was:

SWV - "Weak" (Dexplicit remix)

It's on the new Kingdom mixtape, and appropriately I just noticed that he's scheduled to play Bok Bok & Manara's Night Slugs party in LDN in April (w/ Dexplicit & Zomby! Show is going to be HUGE).

-----------------------------------

I found time yesterday to trek uptown to Park Avenue Armory, taken over by the Whitney for their Biennial. Gang Gang Dance's installation piece (along with what I read about the action that occurred at the opening) was a highlight:

Fairytales CAN come true.

Grey ft. Debbie Harry - "So Far So Real"

Shouts to my friends in NY, old & new.

Ready 4 dem lights n shit.

Wiley Prod. by Bless Beats - Wearing My Rolex (visual aid.)

The last thing I heard Wiley & Bless Beats collaborate on was "Spirit in the Beat", which was so unbelievably good, and I just found out that apparently Bless actually produced this track, too. (See "Styles Upon Styles" post for a free download.) This dream team is on the ups.

(So I rip from dutty artz sometimez. Or does dutty artz rip from me?....)

-----------------------------------

I know Wiley's LDN official, but I also know he loves NYC a whole lot. It seems like a wave of people from the grime and dubstep scenes are getting their first tastes of the states (i.e.: NY) and totally loving it. I'm still a little sour about being there the week before Benga plays (still obsessed with his new record), and having to miss out on it. Definitely won't miss THESE, though!:

New Yorkers: if you read this, get at me, ok?

March Mixtape MADNESS (Styles Upon Styles)

I like to imagine different styles colliding and becoming one, styles upon styles, etc. Two favorites, being that I'm from the d-d-dirty dirty 110%, are crunk-step (like ten thugs [or fem-cee's, totally interchangeable] chanting uncontrollably over ferocious dubstep/grime basslines and intensive snares) and crunk-rave (same vocal element, but with massive dancefloor NRG, trance and house synths, and infinite strobe lights flashing on a platinum floor.) I think Princess (of CRIME MOB) is tapping into this second scenario with this track from her new mixtape "Class Is In Session":

Princess - Pretty Rave Girl

---------------------------------------------------

MORE SICK STYLES:

Bubblin' 4x4 dancefloor-grime from Wiley:

Wiley - "Wearing My Rolex" (DJ Friendly Ikon refix)

+ An NRGetic Erykah Badu remix:

Erykah Badu - "Honey" (Letroset Erykazoo Blend by Luminfire)

---------------------------------------------------

The new KINGDOM mixtape [featuring a DJ Mujava/Aaliyah mashup!] is streaming now on his myspace, and it's the JOINT.

(See "DODECAHEDRON OF CRYSTALLINE BANISHMENT" post for DJ Mujava's "Township Funk" video.)
